Can You Wear a Watch in the Shower or Swim?

Even water-resistant watches are best kept out of the shower, because hot water and steam can damage the seals. Swimming is fine for watches rated at about 100 m or more, if the crown is secure and the seals are in good condition.

Showers

Soap, steam and hot water are hard on rubber seals. Take the watch off, even if it is rated for swimming.

Swimming

  • Check the rating: About 100 m for swimming. 200 m for diving.
  • Check the crown: Push in or screw down fully.
  • Rinse: Rinse after chlorine or sea water.
  • Test the seals: Have them checked regularly.

Leather Straps

Leather and water do not mix. Use a rubber or steel strap for water.
