What 'Swiss Made' Really Means

Swiss Made is a legal label. For a watch to carry it, the movement must be Swiss, a minimum share of manufacturing costs must be in Switzerland, and the watch must be cased up and finally inspected in Switzerland. It is a mark of origin, not a grade of quality.

The Rules In Short

  • Movement: Must be a Swiss movement.
  • Cost: At least 60 percent of manufacturing costs in Switzerland.
  • Casing and inspection: The movement is cased up and finally inspected in Switzerland.

What It Does Not Tell You

Swiss Made is about origin. A watch can be Swiss Made and entry-level, or Swiss Made and very high-end. Look at the movement, finishing and brand for the full picture.
